Bought you some flower stickers from the clearance bin, with some heart eyes for good measure
It turned out to look much different on mobile after I adjusted the scan on my laptop, so here’s a photo where you can see how sparkly most of these stickers are. I don’t know which one is closer to real depending on what kind of device you are viewing this on!
every so often i remember that we have experienced and continue to experience a series of overlapping crises that exacerbate each other, on a scale not previously seen, while people in power have attempted to minimize and obfuscate those crises. and then i have to go back to sending emails.
but then i remember i have a little treat coming in the mail today!
A friend went to an estate sale and got these for me, along with two black Mattel girls with the Spanish face. I thought the highly alarmed looking blonde was really funny, like a Melinda turned up a few notches, and the side glance sweater situation on the other one was really appealing in general. She’ll look nice washed off and brushed. I’m weak against side glance, always, haha
It is nice that my friends and family think of me when looking in thrift store kind of places and scope out the doll situation for me, especially because I can’t really walk anywhere anymore.
(I told the physical therapist yesterday that I didn’t need to be an athlete, I just wanted to go thrift shopping with my friends and my mom and go to cemeteries. The first things that came to mind were just “let me go look at old things”.)
My friend went to wash these and blonde is having a polyhair moment and just dropping hair everywhere, but also there was a surprise terrifying reveal when she was undressed
Not that this is unusual in the cheapo doll world but neither of us had any idea this was lurking under her dress haha

sweater girl is really pretty. She reminds me a bit of Suzi mixed with Daisy lol. I wonder who she is.
The baby in her throat is anatomically correct and a Google search found her name to be KAREN. The hits keep coming with this one.
I wonder about sweater girl too! I am hoping some kind of clue will be more obvious to me when I get her in person. I’m weirdly excited about her, haha. She’s still with my friend who did the doll reconnaissance right now.

I’ve been sitting on Jodie’s final episode all week because I’m a big baby and don’t want her to go, so I’ve been avoiding seeing any and all info/news about Doctor Who to avoid spoiling it once I finally feel able to watch
one of my “special interests” in the past couple of years has been exploring fast fashion vs. slow fashion. it has been a long journey trying to find clothes that actually 1) fit me 2) look good 3) are made from material that is not actively shoving plastic in the ecosystem 4) involve ethical labor, fair trade, fairly compensated, etc
before i did this research, i really had no clue about fabrics or fashion brands. i used to think i had zero interest in fashion, in fact.
i grew up wearing walmart and thrift store clothes, and when i went to college i bought clothes from target and asos. something started to shift a little bit when i found vintage resellers on etsy and ebay… those clothes were so unique. but a lot of the vintage clothes were polyester blends, stiff, and would fall apart as easily as my asos clothes. i would leave them hanging in my closet and never wear them. i would wear the same old t shirts and jeggings every day. i felt like it was impossible to ever wear comfortable clothes, or ever feel good in clothes, so why bother?
it started with linen. linen is very comfortable and pretty sustainable. i was amazed that i didn’t feel the urge to rip my clothes off when i wore linen. lightbulb number one.
a friend let me borrow a nooworks dress, and i went to the store and got some overalls. wow. overalls. lightbulb number two. holy shit, you can wear overalls. you know how people say “not binary or non-binary but a secret third thing.” that’s overalls.
i realized i loved the bonkers prints that nooworks had, and all of it was soft, and made ethically. it was a higher price point than i was used to, which gave me pause. but then you realize: we’re not supposed to be buying dumb clothes every other weekend. and isn’t a slightly higher price point for soft clothes that you won’t want to tear off your body worth it?
so i started my research. i made a spreadsheet. the prices can be all over the place across brands, so i made a column for prices. sizes can be all over the place too – people always ask me “where is the plus size slow fashion?” it’s there. just look at the size column. people say “isn’t it better to buy secondhand?” yeah, it is. i have many links to secondhand sources.
