Hi I was today years old when I realized some people truly don’t have to think about every single thing they do. They don’t have to have an imaginary set of rules (I’m not allowed to put on my bra until I’ve brushed my teeth) to function.
The prompts aren’t late, time is moving imperceptibly faster.
On August 1stto the 31st we’ll be welcoming in to our 6th Zexal Month! Under the cut is the new set of prompts, based on the Four Seasons. This year, Mod Iris has cleverly made the alternative prompts as the titles for each prompt. So, for example, if you aren’t vibing with Day 12′s prompt, you may do a prompt based on the word ‘Mixtape’, even if you don’t follow the question/prompt attached to Day 11. Keep an eye on this blog and the #zexal month 2022 tag for the event!
There’s a popular post going around that’s like “well tone indicators are helpful for people for anxiety because some people need stuff like “ /nm (not mad)” or “ /nbh (nobody here)” and I absolutely get it because I have an anxiety disorder but like. You can very much add that on the text of a message itself and it will be way more clear and accessible than expecting them to memorize this whole new fabricated code.
Which one do you think will be clearer, faster to understand, and more direct to the point:
“oh my god someone is pissing me off /nbh”
“oh my god someone (not from this server, don’t worry) is pissing me off”
or
“have you done the dishes? /nm
“have you done the dishes? don’t worry, im not mad, just wondering”
You can be mindful of someone else’s needs and talk to them in a way that is respectful and understanding of those needs. The key is communication. Expecting people to memorize a lot of abbreviations is like the contrary of accessible.
I still haven’t seen these tone indicator abbreviations in the wild, but it certainly doesn’t help that every time I see examples like this on tumblr, the abbreviation has a different, well-established meaning!
Like in this example, if someone said to me “have you done the dishes? /nm” I would read it as “Have you done the dishes? Nevermind.” Which is either absent-minded or passive-aggressive. It would never occur to me that it could mean “not mad”!
The best, though, is /pos, which supposedly means “positive” but is already well-established as meaning “piece of shit.” Like. If someone used that one on me that would be a very mixed-message.
For the love of all that’s holy, please stop trying to add yet another set of social rules I have to figure out and memorize; it is hard enough already. Just say the actual words that you mean instead of making me guess which of all possible meanings you intended with your abbreviations. If you mean that you are not mad, say that you are not mad. If you want communication to be clearer, then make it clearer; don’t add another layer of obfuscation. You are not actually making life easier for anyone outside of your secret code words club; if anything you are making it harder, and making communication worse.
the current thing trad losers are losing their minds over is one singular dude on reddit that refurbished and hand painted a grandfather clock and they keep saying the guy “ruined its value” or “threw thousands out the window by vandalizing a precious heirloom” and let me just say as someone densely familiar with the world of antiques, there’s a 99% chance that this clock was a mass produced reproduction and there’s a 100% chance that clock is not as valuable as ppl think it is. when people hear the word ‘grandfather clock’ they’re always gonna assume you’re talking about something that was handmade in a woodshop by a jolly old man when rlly repros take up a waaay bigger slice of the market far more than any handcrafted items. and besides people will repaint or redecorate these ‘oh so sacred handcrafted items’ every day there’s a huge market for them. it’s the same reason why people like long furbies or dolls that have been customized to have like gore mouths or something. this is literally like watching a bunch of pretentious farts make a mountain out of a molehill. also the clock is kinda cool if I’m being honest
this is what’s got them so mad. like the dude didn’t destroy it or anything, just made it more interesting to look at. when I see this I don’t go “this man is a danger to society because he RUINED a precious antique” i just think to myself “huh that’s actually some very impressive work with patterns, getting all those intricate geometric shapes done with just paint must’ve been hard work and it looks cool and the colors really pop” but idk maybe that’s just because I’m not completely deranged

My grandmother had a grandfather clock and for a few desperate weeks when we had to empty her house, there was all this fuss that her cousin or uncle had made it. And then she admitted he had made it, yes, but from a very mass produced kit because there was kind of a fad for them at the time.
regret to inform many of you that several yugiohs i like have birthdays in the next month-ish and i’m that loser who likes to celebrate fictional people especially when shit sucks as hard as it sucks right now
its so stupid how you’ll have a dream that’s just like this horrible precision-crafted weapon of psychological terror and then you just have to get up and go to work like u didn’t just experience the apocalypse in real time or whatever
