Indeed.  I’m sitting here like, ‘How do I define current???’

But things I would say I’m currently in love with to the point of actively interested in seeing content for right at this moment?

- Londo/G’Kar - Babylon 5  (I have to admit largely this one, just because it’s fresher for me!)
- Garak/Bashir - Deep Space 9  
- Bertie/Jeeves - Jeeves series (though you see comparatively little of that on my blog, I always find they make me happy or calm me down.  They’re such a good.)
- Nny/Edgar - JtHM/my SWAN stuff

I feel the need to say I never stop shipping a thing once I start, though?  I’m not ever not going to love Two/Jamie, Five/Turlough, even the stuff I mention in the next question.  I just kind of go around and around in cycles and occasionally add more.  Like a fandom lazy susan/spice rack.  

I also feel like I’m on the fucking verge of considering shipping some Crystal Gems, but We Shall See. 

• G - Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it

Somewhat related to this question, does anyone else remember when ‘OTP’ was a term reserved only for The Big One?  Like, it was meant for the single pairing in a show, or the single pairing in all things, that you just believed in with your everything?   I feel certain that’s how it started, and now it’s just sort of the generic term for ‘ship’.  Like it used to be that people would say, “well, I ship all these things, but OTP for that show is A/B”.  And maybe it gets used like that to some degree still, but it’s more universal now than I think it ever was before.  There was a time when I considered myself not to have one, because I couldn’t choose one that had that ‘ONE TRUE’ distinction over everything. 

Just some shit. 

ANYWAY. I think the first ships I got really invested in were my original characters, but after them, it was fucking Kunzite and Zoisite from Sailor Moon.  I was kind of enchanted with that, and it might have been the first fanfic I ever sought out.  I was probably like 9.

Elle King’s “Ex’s and Oh’s” came on when I selected random, which doesn’t directly relate to anyone lyrically, but I now have married to images of Londo and G’Kar in my mind because I drew them to it on a loop for hours several weeks ago. 

Directly after that, however, was ‘Echo’, from CrusherP on YouTube, apparently.  And that is EXTREME SWAN!Johnny.

No, not really.

Skipping through my current playlist to rule out theme songs, shit in other languages that I don’t have a working recollection of the translation, and things that remind me of nothing, I land on Scooter’s “Aiii Shot The DJ”.   

Which is largely these assholes:

• Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go (prompts optional but encouraged)

Man, I mentioned this in my first one, but fandom is so much friendlier than I feel like it was ten years ago.   Back then, it was really sort of like taking your fucking life in your hands if you wanted to invest yourself in something that was outside of what was proper for that fandom or something.  The JTHM fandom was not welcomming of my posse of people who were kind of unironically enjoying slash from the series.  And then me, making an AU with rainbows and rock stars and a highschool?   I had a hate stamp on dA for a while, and I’d just get notes occasionally telling me how fucked up I was.  

Now all the cracky shit I might want to do (see top portion of this post) is really embraced, whether I’m taking it totally seriously or not, and I really like that about where things have been going.  People accept so much more, and even though it’s partly because I’ve been working so hard to remove my mental shame passenger, I know that the ease I feel in posting a lot of the things I do has come from a really dramatic sort of culture change that’s happened on the internet in the last ten or fifteen years.  It’s been a hell of a thing to witness.

• I - Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why

Generally, if I like something, there isn’t anything that can make me un-like it, just sort of dampen my enthusiasm.  The only thing I can say had anything like a ‘stop liking’ effect was bronies, who just made associating with a beloved franchise from my childhood really unpleasant, so I stay far away from all that now, when I used to really enjoy the show and still collect vintage ponies. 

• Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)

To be wincingly honest, I blacklist a lot of stuff that looks like it’s going to become a massive part of a blog I’m following if it’s something I’m just not into, so there are probably a lot of things that people are posting that I just don’t see, but the things I see most often are: 

- Gravity Falls, which is probably something I *should* be interested in, given what it seems to contain, but I still don’t really have any desire to watch it.  This is the only one of the things I see often that I might watch in the future, though.  I do this thing with new media that just means that the stars have to fucking align and then do a choreographed dance for me to start into something new.  

- Marvel universe stuff.  Mostly Captain America and his 90s grunge hair cyborg arm hookup boy.  I block most of this just to keep it manageable on my dash, though.  So I just see untagged things a lot and kind of think I’d be inundated if I didn’t blacklist it, haha. 

- Some kind of vague Pokemon stuff?  I’m not sure who all these blue and red people are, but they’re Pokemon-related, I think. 

-Lightning flashes of pro-wrestling.

That might be it?  Knitting, which isn’t a fandom, but is something I don’t do and appears to be sorcery to me.  That shows up a lot.  Everything else I see on my dash I am pretty well involved with or interested in, I think!

• F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom

If I define ‘in a fandom’ as ‘consistently making content for’, then probably the Nny/Edgar corner of the Johnny the Homicidal Maniac fandom, where I spent a solid 5 or 6 years from late 2004 until sometime in 2009 or 2010 doing nothing but that and the occasional original thing.   I made a massive AU that ended up as a little sub-fandom and they were around so long that I still use them as a kind of litmus test to see how far I’ve come artistically. 

I’ve come back to it a bit recently, but I burned out on it so spectacularly back in ‘09 or ‘10 that it was a very long time before that fandom saw me again.  Bad things were afoot and what not.   

It’s all better now, though.  It’s amazing how fandom has changed in ten years. 

• N - Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice)

What even IS my main fandom, I don’t know.  I feel like I have to assume again, but ‘in fandom’ here I’m thinking means like, ‘in the community made of fans’ versus ‘in the source material of your fandom’.  And since I’m not sure what my ‘main’ anything is, I’d say in general?:

- More fanfic that I can read.  I always feel a bit like I’m scraping the non-explicit/non-super hardcore sexual content off the side of some kind of fandom casserole dish.  

- A concrete hub for the content I want.  Tumblr can be a bit nebulous and effervescent with fandoms because it’s really all just based on clusters of people following each other.  I’d like to not have to sort of tail my favorite pairings around tumblr (if there’s anything at all to tail).   As much as I laughed at it this morning, I miss LJ communities as fandom hubs so that I could always keep track of the latest goings on A/B land.  

- More people doing fanart, I think.  I miss when it felt like I was in a community of artists rather than one person among like four doing some colorful shouting into the void.  Back in my Johnny days, it felt like everyone I knew was drawing all the time and there was constantly new content, and everyone had really different styles, so you even sort of could have favorite artists out of the many! 

• X - top 5-10 characters who are yoUR PRECIOUS BABIES AND YOU WILL DIE DEFENDING THEM

Goodness.  I’m sitting here like, “Do most of my faves even NEED defending?” But let’s see if I can find some who some people might say unkind things toward for whatever reason…  I’m not sure it’ll be in any kind of order, but characters I fucking love with the passion of ‘fight me, fuck off’: 

- Londo Mollari ~~ (Babylon 5)

- Vislor Turlough (Classic Doctor Who)

- Bertie Wooster (Jeeves series)

- Elim Garak (Deep Space Nine)

- Amethyst (Steven Universe)

- also, Pearl (Steven Universe)

Most of them for totally different reasons.  Lots of people like these characters, even, I just want to fight people who say bad things about them.
