argh, i left my waterbottle in my mom’s car
Shoutout to whoever added my fanart to the Londo and G’Kar fanlore page, even though the page looks like a wasteland that has not been updated in years. I’m glad that your priority was people seeing Londo and G’Kar in excessive frills and not the stand-in bracket text on the page, haha.
But seriously, thanks, you’re rad, I’m kind of proud of myself now.

tumblr mobile is so frustrating to deal with, it’s like every third post is funyuns or some scam-y looking rpg game
I think I’d be okay if every third post was from the Denny’s tumblr, though. Those people know what they’re doing.
ladyyatexel replied to your post: I’ve spent so much time in smallish fa…
I’m terminally in small fandoms. DS9 is a smaller town than TOS and TNG, and my Doctor Who stuff is all Classic and BF, and now B5, and YEAH. I sort of wish I were into bigger things! better for art exposure, etc. alas~
I guess both large and small fandoms have their advantages and disadvantages. Larger fandoms have the possibility for far more exposure, but also the possibility of being overlooked, while smaller fandoms make it much easier to get to know people. The smaller ones tend to be the ones I feel I can engage with better. Larger ones feel a bit, I don’t know, more impersonal.
Yeah, I think that as much as I wish I was in a large fandom where I could get a proper exposure to my work, I will always kind of like these little fandom nooks I keep getting myself into. It’s like my brain is not satisfied until I am nestled in a little crack in a cranny in a hole in the wall. I can’t just be in a small general fandom, I have to zero in on not the main character, and then zero in on a ship with that character. Then I find my people.
I get that ‘impersonal’ feeling so hard, though, wow. I’ve often thought that about the New Who or ST: TOS fandoms, that there’s not a little community to get attached to, really, and they feel just like massive oceans with currents happening miles away somewhere. So even if you are probably getting new fanfic every other day (this would be amaze~~), you don’t end up with the kind of ‘I am tumblr family with everyone in this tiny fandom boat with me, we are like a webring from 1998′ feeling you get when it’s you and like a dozen people on a particular thing.
My brother and I drove back from dinner with my mom and step-dad singing “Stronger Than You”
he’s kind of the fucking best
“Where you walk, I will walk. I have sworn myself to your side.”
So this is said by Lennier, who is written as having explicitly romantic feelings for Delenn. (Whatever my personal feelings might be on that development.)
And then later you’ve got Londo and G’Kar’s “Where you go, I go,” thing, and I don’t really know where I’m going with this, but that’s what it reminded me of.
We had a really good time putting makeup on aliens tonight in my livestream~
i’m so salty i missed this livestream because these pics are great and i need to know what’s the conversation that led to G’kar having piercings and blush on his forehead (which is GREAT i love this detail so much)
Piercings was literally, ‘Fuck it I don’t care if it’s bone, omg, put some piercings on him’ “uh, okay, right here?” “OOOOOOMMMMMMMGGGG”
The blush on his head was sort of an extension of many things. I made some observations about the kinds of things that Humans do when we use makeup - it’s to emphasize features that we like - and we use it for different things.
So I thought of putting red around his eyes the way that humans often put white there to make it artificially larger. And then we did some stuff with covering Londo in some blush and glitter, and then we were talking about Bedazzling G’Kar’s spots (and then Londo’s head, which I imagined sounding like a staple gun), and that led to me thinking about contouring and ganguro girls plus our contemplation of wedding ceremonies from two different planets and how one would change the tone of them completely based on expectations of the people involved and…. Basically, the blush and piercings and everything about the last one was ‘ceremonial/formal’, and the makeup here going around his entire eye orbit was us all considering that aliens might want the makeup in other places than just directly on the upper lid, which is why a lot of Londo’s is on the under side of his eye and has a wing shape to match his eyebrows.
Like, don’t get me wrong, we had a really wacky time, I was laughing and shrieking and several people were type-laughing and yelling, and we tried a lot of things and had sudden “oooooo” moments of surprise when something looked really good, but we also made some thoughtful decisions about what to put on them and why and had big sprawling conversations about representation in sci-fi, dudebros ruining everything, ‘masculinization = legitimization’ and subverting that… Basically, a firm stance that this was not something we were doing like, ‘lol, middle aged alien men in makeup!’ We’re having fun, but it’s not a joke, it’s genuine expression and thoughtful shit. It’s the same any time I do things like put male characters in dresses. I try to be very careful not to draw things that mark this stuff as a parody. Funny not because ‘lol, doing girl stuff!’ but funny because of the situations or the characters. Because we liked imagining them having a silent blingy coldwar, not because of the bling itself.
This stream ran long, so I don’t think it uploaded to my on demand library on its own, but I’ll try to get it uploaded along with several of the other long ones. They take ages to process, so they don’t come up until a long time after I’ve done the stream. The downside is that all you get is me talking and reacting to nothing since the chat isn’t logged, but it’s part of the experience anyway.
So there’s a condensed recap!
Weird thought - what if Andy had been cast as Londo, and Peter as Garak? It’s obvious who finds the idea more ridiculous…
