When you were young and in school and your class won a contest or sold the fuck out of some hyper expensive candy and festive tins of popcorn, what did you get as a reward? A pizza party.
People getting together for movies? “Hey, man, yeah, come over, we’re ordering pizza.” Yes, there will probably be chips, and maybe even a festive tin of popcorn, but the draw is the pizza, the motivator is the pizza, the pizza is the only thing that is mentioned.
Having a staff meeting, and you want to encourage attendance? Pizza.
I don’t think I have ever been asked in my entire life whether or not I like pizza, only what kind. And I fucking love pizza. I literally just ordered some minutes before I began typing this and I ordered one for like four people so I can eat it as leftovers for DAYS.
So maybe what you need to do here is imagine (or reflect on your own experience) that you do not really like pizza and are kind of tired of every event being ~*~*~*~PIZZA~*~*~*~
Because this is kind of what being somewhere on the asexual spectrum is like, and it’s definitely applied in fandom, where I’ve seen porn used as a reward, as an incentive, and to encourage participation. It’s also often seen as an expected default in certain circles.

All those little things, expressions, and little finger touches, and gestures, it’s so lovely and so important and it usually gets overlooked. I LOVE how much your work focuses on those little things, always have.

Those little things are the things I’m pretty much obsessed with. I’ve been so afraid that they’ve made my work all feel too same-y, and while I still want to make sure that I’m not constantly painting the same subjects in the same poses, it is really reassuring to know that other people sincerely love these things as stand alone actions and touches too~~~

It’s funny, you sent this a day or two ago and I would have been like, ‘Well, I don’t know if it’s really asexual art, it’s just not sexual images,’ even just that long ago, but thanks to my adventures thinking this through on paper, maybe it IS asexual art. More on that when I finish the text post version, I guess!
I am really touched to have been able to inspire you (and other people!) being emotional with that image! I still can’t look at it for very long, I kind of flinch, but it makes me glad to know it’s out there and people had really lovely reactions to it. Seeing that the things I make are actually significant and important to people is really massive to me. You get a very subtle sub-wave message of ‘What you do is not enough and is not as exciting as really sexual stuff’ just by kind of existing, so it’s really big for me to hear that something I’m making is important to you and to everyone else that’s commented.
This feels simultaneously larger than just “we like your things” and very simply that. It honestly feels most the messages I’ve been getting are not only “We hear you,” but “We understand the language you’re speaking.” And for someone who communicates primarily with lines and colors, this is so inexpressibly and vastly important.

Yeah, I’d be pretty jazzed to do that, honestly. We could set up something in Livestream, even. Then it’s live and you can ask me about all the shit I’ve undoubtedly forgotten.

The funny thing when you know how to do something is that sometimes you can’t remember what you used to not know, and you have no idea what you actually DO know. So I find I learn from trying to teach all the time.
Let me know what you’re interested in learning, or specific problems you’re having. Then I can figure out what the hell I know that can address it, haha. I feel like a video well be most useful regardless of whether you watch me make it live or not, but let me know if that idea appeals to you! I don’t have anything going on this weekend that I know of, so we could even do it then if that suits you. I was thinking I wanted to stream something soon anyway, so this could work out!
(You may also want to request a particular subject matter for me showing you stuff, otherwise you’re at my mercy and could end up with Banshee, Londo, Garak, or Johnny indirectly teaching you to make space backgrounds or whatever. You may still be at that mercy depending on what is on my list, but it doesn’t hurt to try to skew it in your favor haha.)
I can’t access live stream right now, and it’s been finicky for me lately regarding saving shit, but my first and so far only traditional livestream video was water color and had me talking a lot about what I’m doing. It might be up in my video library if you want to look at that.
SO hey, this is a thing that will be done! Probably this weekend, since next weekend I’ll be at Gallifrey.
But just in case other people want to attend a session of ‘Lady tries to teach things’ vs. 'Lady screams about aliens and draws on the wrong layer’, now you know about it.
