They really didn’t do much with it. But like, this was one of my things where I was like ‘man they would be cute together’ and then it got confirmed…after the fact. It was saddening. I love to think about that relationship dynamic though.
Right? I feel like they started it being a thing-ish, and then as soon as it started, Talia was gone.
I usually need some extensive and prolonged character interaction to ship something, so it sadly just isn’t enough material, but DANG, I wish we could have seen how that would have panned out. I wonder how much they’d have been allowed to do on 90s TV though.
I was happy that the show seemed to try to normalize that as much as possible, though? Like, Ivanova saying “I think I loved Talia” was not some kind of scandal, it was just her admitting she had feelings at all?
There were other instances of people mentioned in a super off-hand way that let you know what you were supposed to conclude, even when you couldn’t show it blatantly.
Hell, those maintenance guys in that one episode saw Londo and G'Kar having a thing about whatever the fuck it was this time and said, ‘How long do you think they’ve been married?’ when they both hissed and stormed off and the tone was like, 'Jeez, I know, right?’ and not, 'Gross, wow, wtf, you’re acting like girls.’ Those dudes were extremely chill, come to think of it. I liked that episode’s framing, it was charming as hell.
I really dug that there were no eyebrows of shock or novelty or anything at Ivanova (or Talia for that matter) about anything regarding them and a relationship of any kind. There was no sort of, “You mean, like, you two? Sleeping like 'not sleeping’?” shit, making a giant fetishly fuss about it. Super rad.
OH, also the episode with Marcus and Stephen getting ID cards as newly weds and Marcus just having a grand old time with it, but neither of them being gross about it? I thought that was handled so well, like, Stephen was never repulsed, he was rolling his eyes at Marcus being so fucking cheesy. I was really pleased to see that.
