“For a certain sort of person, sharing a book can be as intimate and exhilarating as sharing a kiss — and as varied in its vernacular, from a drunken, late-night exhortation to crack open some John LeCarre, to an old friend gently floating the idea — across the suddenly endless expanse of a living room sofa — that you might, maybe, perhaps, enjoy a little Julian Barnes. Like a kiss, like a crush, like love itself, opening a book at someone else’s suggestion is simultaneously a solitary act and a shared one: We may travel these paths alone, but we visit common territory.

When someone you love tells you about a book that he loves, it’s an act of revelation —intentional or not — that’s as intimate and vulnerable as being handed the keys to his childhood home. He’s telling you where he’s been, but even more than that, he’s trusting you to explore it on your own, knowing your steps will fall where his once did. (And oh, the thrilling signs and wonders that attend reading his own copy of the book: There’s a strange and profound power to holding the very same object in your hands that he once held and — by the same portkey — reaching, separately but identically, the same destination.)”

Attention to all of my Central and Southern California followers!

This is Pumpkin and his sister Kitty. They are both about 8 years old and were dumped off at a shelter in the Santa Clarita Valley after having spent the majority of their lives in a happy home. No one knows exactly why they were abandoned. Aside from both being declawed, they are perfectly healthy. However, they have been trying to find a home for over two months now.

Pumpkin (the orange kitty) is very sad, due to his being abandoned and is leaning very heavily on his sister for support. The kind people trying to adopt them out desperately want them to be re-homed as a pair, but time is running out for their wish to come true. Please spread the word and help us find someone to make these kitties’ holiday a very special one.

You can contact Pamela at ext. 2 by calling 818-474-2700. You can also email her at adoptions@heavenlypets.org. Please visit their website.

Thanks everyone!

Update:

This post has nearly 8,000 notes and I want to thank everyone who reblogged it. However, Pumpkin and Kitty still need a home. Some people are reblogging and saying that they have been adopted and that they are no longer on the website. This is false.

They are not listed under adoptions. They are on the “News” page. Confusing, I know, however I want everyone to know that they still need homes. Please do not spread false information. I am in contact with the shelter and they will tell me if someone adopts them.

I will also be making a post if they are adopted, so please standby for that. If anyone is interested in them, don’t hesitate to message me directly or use the contact information posted above. Thank you.

My love and thanks to tinsnip, bmouse, and kiranerys, who all sent me greetings and gifts to my sad little P.O Box this year~

(Most of what I’m mailing will be done after the 25th due to my wonky living situation, so you’ll get to enjoy extended holidays from Lady.)

Thank you, Also At Gas Station Man, for enjoying my singing while I cleaned my windshield. I did not know you were there, but I am happy you had a marginally better time servicing your vehicle due to my presence.

prynnette:

The Legend of Korra followed, for four seasons, a combative, kind, pugnacious, cheerful, compassionate, and above all, complicated young woman. She is visibly muscular, dark-skinned, and struggles with mental illness. She is, by divine right, the most powerful person on earth. Her story is further dominated by women of color: international leaders and housewives, children and the elderly, villains and saviors, married and single, docile and taciturn. These women were spiritual leaders, military dictators, police chiefs, heads of state, former criminals, and more. In the show’s final moments, our heroine is heavily implied to be bisexual as she walks off into her happy ending hand in hand with a gorgeous young captain of industry.

This was a cartoon on Nickelodeon.

You no longer get to complain about how hard it is to create female characters.
