Five of seven (maybe eight?) paintings finished!
These last ones need to have some ladies, because wow, I have painted a shit ton of men (and one mostly male-presenting non-binary person), and this is looking pretty lopsided.

- “We’re your family, we’re allowed to make fun of you”
- “Come on, it’s just a joke”
- “toughen up and stop being a baby”
- “We’re just teasing”
BULLYING IS BULLYING NO MATTER WHO IT COMES FROM.
IT JUST HURTS A FUCKLOAD A LOT MORE WHEN ITS COMING FROM PEOPLE YOU TRUST
FUCK OFF.
this post will often go weeks without a note
and then there’ll be a holiday
and it resurfaces
and that makes me sad

Why You Can’t Say “Christmas” in Hawaiian.
I have actually used Mele Kalikimaka as an example of phonotactics when I taught Intro Linguistics. More examples I’ve used are English loanwords in Japanese, such as ice cream becoming something like aisukurimu, and Russian/Greek loanwords in English, such as /ks-/ and /ps-/ becoming kəs- or s-, as in Ksenia or psychology.
The other interesting thing about the pronunciation of “Christmas” is that its English pronunciation also shows adaptation of borrowed words from one language into another: in this case, Greek “ch” (chi or X) which is an aspirated /k/, not an alveopalatal fricative /tʃ/ which is what we most commonly use “ch” for in English.
I got into more detail about that here on Lexicon Valley.

It doesn’t help that the Shut Me Up video is directed by Vasquez.
I would say it certainly DOES help! There’s a sort of circle of life feeling I get just knowing that bit of information.
I think you are probably not wrong, haha, though there is not a lot that SWANJohnny doesn’t like. The only Mindless Self Indulgence song that I know or have bothered to absorb in any way is ‘Shut Me Up’, but any time I hear it, I think of him. I imagine him just performing the hell out of nearly anything I listen to.
Honestly, there are lots of songs that I hear and instantly it’s like he’s laughing and enjoying it. Some of them because he legit would like them, others it’s like I pretend someone wanted him to sing it but it’s awful or really unsuited to him and he just sings it anyway. So often, the stuff I’m drawing or doodling in this particular universe is his (incredibly internalized in me) reaction to a particular song. He’s like a few other characters for me in that he’s so alive to me that imagining his feelings on certain things takes no effort at all.
This is really useful for being stuck in traffic. SWAN and DD9 can go a long way when stuck at standstill on a highway.
