Totally. Something not a lot of folks realise is that plate harness typically has an air gap of at least a couple of inches between the chest plate and the wearer’s actual chest. This is both because a more rounded profile is better for deflecting frontal blows, and to help distribute the shock of impact. The upshot is that there’s plenty of room for boobs in there - a woman’s breatsplate won’t necessarily be visually distinguishable from a man’s breastplate.

Captain handing you a ring didn’t make you deeply uncomfortable, don’t liken it to this giant ‘have vague sex with me while people I know stand around in the next room listening to it’ ritual. This is not the same level of thing.

I feel like there should be more pushback about this stuff within alien couples in sci-fi in general, and we should see more things that make non-humans deeply uncomfortable that seem totally benign, normal, and generic to us. I guess it’s more fun for most people to see (and write) a human being put into an uncomfortable alien situation, and I get the sort of allegorical and symbolic ideas behind putting the 'dominant’ people through some discomfort, but I always feel like there’s a needed balance in these kinds of relations that gets tilted oddly in execution. I get doing things because they are important to your partner, but there never seems to be a dialog going both ways or compromising on some of these dual Totally Normal/Extreme Discomfort dichotomies.

I love that this man is objectively one of the scarier-looking dudes on the station, and that he is definitely capable of being as scary as he looks, but his default state is being a charming and optimistically realistic dork while laughing at fucking everything.
