“I like slacks. They’re comfortable.”
In 1938, Helen Hulick defied a judge’s order and wore slacks in court, earning her a five-day jail sentence. She later returned in a jail-issued dress, but not before being quoted in The Times as saying that she wouldn’t change into such an outfit.
