the person doing the christening is dr. tam o’shaughnessy, ride’s partner of 27 yrs. sally ride was not just the first woman and youngest person in space: she was also the first lesbian in space - likely, the first lgbtq person in space.

I know we shared this before but finding out that this ship was christened by Dr. Tam O’Shaughnessy was something that required re-sharing.

having ocs is weird

some of them are just like ideas and concepts while others are like people living inside your head demanding a nice room and snacks and attention and occasionally they poke you in the feelings when you’re least expecting it

some of them you spend forever coaxing out from a dark corner of your mind with some candy and some of them are always up in your shit

whooo i got a fave icon on there now~

xkcd: Wikipedia article titles with the right syllable stress pattern to be sung to the tune of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song. (Here’s the song, for reference.)

All of these titles are examples of trochaic tetrameter, which is one of the most common English meters (a trochee is a foot consisting of STRONG-weak and tetrameter is four feet per line). Another example is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, although that has a deficient last foot, but you can sing any of these titles to that tune as well if you just double the last note.

Trochaic tetrameter creates a strong feeling of sing-song “poem-ness” in English. Most Shakespearean characters, for example, speak in iambic pentameter (weak-STRONG, five feet per line), which sounds more natural, but a few speak in trochaic tetrameter for dramatic effect. For example, MacBeth and Lady MacBeth speak in iambic pentameter, which gives the effect of talking normally:

Methought I heard a voice cry “Sleep no more!
Macbeth does murder sleep,” the innocent sleep,
Sleep that knits up the ravell’d sleave of care,

Out, damned spot! out, I say!—One: two: why,
then, ‘tis time to do’t.—Hell is murky!—Fie, my
lord, fie! a soldier, and afeard? What need we
fear who knows it, when none can call our power
to account?—Yet who would have thought the old
man to have had so much blood in him?

But the witches speak in trochaic tetrameter, which makes them seem like they’re delivering an incantation:

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

Fair is foul, and foul is fair

radioactivesoup replied to your post:The weirdest thing happened to me the other…

Every once in a while I remember that Lady isn’t your given name and I am kind of shocked. Like, I know I shouldn’t be, but you’re just *Lady*. I’m sorry that you’re having to deal with this. :(

Haha, obviously the same thing happens to me!  I visited a friend who had never called me anything but Lady and when she busted out the given name to get my attention, it was really weird sounding and strange. I’ve been signing art as L.Y.X. since I was 14, it just feels really natural.

It was so weird, it felt like I was getting called by a cutsey baby name, and I have no idea how to process feeling like this about it, because I really don’t have a cutsey baby-sounding name that ends in ‘ee’ or is really associated with frilly shit or anything.

Possibly it was just that the people we were hanging with were all her friends rather than mine, so I was putting up with a lot of things that make me angry and uncomfortable (unending jokes about sex, a baby, preoccupation with gyms and working out, more people than I thought were going to present so I wasn’t ready) for the sake of not being a gloomy guest, so it might have been that I just sort of felt them being sort of indulgently polite back and that’s why it felt so gross.

It’s so weird.

I updated the main page for SWAN/ISH on my website and cleaned up the SWAN specific FAQ today.  It’s not a really exciting update, but it’s something I did, so I’m making a note of it, dammit.

Gonna try to get the Formal Homicidal Gallery updated with some of the new art.

One day, I’m gonna make a fan-fanart gallery that isn’t just links, but is thumbnails and stuff like my galleries. One glorious day.

i am not sure why i was just followed by a madoka blog, i literally just… said i couldn’t watch it because i found it really ugly?? okay then, have fun

mitsurusasayama-deactivated2015 asked: if you like anime then i would definitely recommend psycho-pass (its by the same writer as madoka magica)

I don’t, but thanks!   I recall trying to watch Madoka with my ex, but we were both so repulsed by the terrible facial anatomy in the animation that we stopped watching like two or three episodes in.

I still have attachments to anime from when I was in that phase from like, ten years ago and before, so I still love Sailor Moon, and Slayers, and several things by CLAMP, along with bits of Utena, which must have been the post that triggered this ask, but I haven’t found myself excited by or interested in anime or its aesthetic in years.

Thanks anyway!
