I found this while poking around for reference photos (oh ho ho), and I’m kind of impressed with the costume people now, considering what the fashion expert had to say about what kind of Doctor she imagined him to be based on one photo before anything aired.

These colors are awesome! You’re getting really good at watercolors! It’s all vivid and woosh-y, especially Edgar’s sleeves, looking all oceanic. Nice.
Haha, watercolors are sort of My Thing at this point, I just hadn’t unleashed them on these two yet! I’m glad you like the look of it because you’ll probably see more!
Do they look couple-y, happy or otherwise, here? That’s interesting! I often feel like there’s this weird sort of dual thing happening with them where performance mode is ‘on’ and Johnny toys with all of them and his issues with people and touch and everything vanish for the length of a song (I think this was best depicted in this one! There are hands all over him there, and if this happened in any other context, he’d be tearing limbs off of all involved, probably Edgar included considering his hand placement.), and then sort of his 'off’ mode where if anyone but Edgar comes within a certain proximity, they’re getting musically kicked in the teeth. I’m not sure which mode might be visible here, but I’ve always found it difficult to see 'couple’ when they were all dolled up to perform and not showing some very overt affection. Like, there’s a doodle I posted here … a few weeks ago? Has it been that long? With Johnny inspecting Edgar’s stitches and that looks very couple to me, and ones with Johnny singing right at him, but then I think of stuff like this where Edgar is definitely in Johnny’s lap, but he’s also being stabbed in the stomach with a street sign. (And then he and Devi are tangled up and Jimmy is attached to Devi and I always do this with them, I just link them all up in ambiguous ways as much as I can.)
Edgar’s soulless eyes here might be contributing to me just thinking it looks like Homicides goofing off rather than couple-ish, but I’m really cool with it looking any way at all, so that’s kind of fabulous to me! This is possibly what happy couple looks like to people this deeply fucked up, haha. Even the montage of kisses I put up on dA has this undercurrent of fucked up sitting in it. Alas~

I didn’t mention last night in my watercolor adventures that after I drove 40 minutes to the art store so I could buy (fucking 13!) nibs, I was strolling through the store loudly singing “I Can’t Decide”
Nobody bothered me and like two people let me in front of them in line, haha.
Today is more watercolor, though most of my followers will be relieved to hear that it will be some other losers I love and not Johnny haha. Smaller scale, since yesterday I had to paint something that was taller than most of my paper and it took more time than I thought it would have, but still! Other things!

look kiddos: due to tumblr’s half-baked tagging system (where only so many tags count towards actually categorizing a given post), tags on this site have evolved into an acceptable form of dispensing and sharing commentary, but that is not the case on other websites — ESPECIALLY AO3. tags on AO3 are intended to be functional, not conversational, and not only do excessive paragraphs of tags like these look patently ridiculous and sell your work short, they also make life harder for the site’s tag wranglers who volunteer their time to keep the tags organized so people can actually find your fic.
in short, knock it off.
Actually…. not so much. The word count or structure of a tag doesn’t determine its relevance as a filterable browsing tool, because wranglers exist. :D
What actually makes life harder for tag wranglers? People tagging obscure characters or OCs who are not in the work. Private bookmark tags that use terms we’ve never seen before. Smushnames. Comma fail. Drafts that stay for months because people keep editing them. All of those are allowed, and hardly anyone ever says anything about them outside of wrangler spaces.
What do the chatty tags quoted here do to wranglers? Pretty much nothing. We have a mass wrangle tool. It takes a few seconds to get the right boxes tickied, and then most these tags vanish. Boom, done. (The tags that don’t vanish are the ones that get synned to existing canonicals and become filterable.)
