I’ve watched three or four episodes of Defiance and apparently this show’s idea of aliens is just increasing intensities of white people. 

All the humans (save very few) are white people covered in dirt.

The first aliens are red haired white people with fancy noses.

The next aliens are white people with white hair and eyes and clothes and frankly kind of a white fetish that ends up making them look like they live inside a furnished refrigerator in which the light never goes off.

The next aliens are so white they’ve just forgone any other features beyond being like paper and bubble wrap with eyes and a mouth. 

I’m not interested in the marriage of the two dumb generic teenagers, rolling my eyes so hard at the brothel being a thing that showed up at all let alone with this much frequency, and the main guy is just the most obnoxiously rehashed capable rugged man in his late 30s early 40s that I can predict his dialog and I want to punch him constantly just because he exists. 

I like the doctor, though! Seems a shame she doesn’t look to be one of the people we’re supposed to be focusing on, because I’d like to know more about her and these two rival families we see instead are boring as fuck. I don’t know if I find her interesting because she’s not being shoved in my face, or if she’s the only person who it doesn’t feel like I’ve met already in some other show.  She’s not a ‘pretty’ female alien like we so often see in Star Trek, she’s so full of sort of dry pointy mannerisms and dialog while in a position of providing care.  Since we’ve only seen her in the background, I don’t know if she’s going to end up a bland husk of one-liners like Amy Pond or if she’ll turn out to be an actual thing, but I really hope for the latter.

I’m probably going to watch the rest of these because I downloaded it and it’s here, but I’m not sure I can say I really like it at this point. We’ll seeeee
