From this thing~

  • 1: Take a picture of your workspace.
  • 2: Show your pencilcase and what’s inside.

My workspace feels a little bit mobile lately, and it’s broken into pieces because I’m not in an ideal situation, but!

image

This is my desk that is not really meant to be used the way I’m using it, and is in fact super uncomfortable. I lost an actual art desk when I had to move and this was just some weird side table my mother had.

image

I have the drawers just crammed with stuff.  This one has three types of paint, three(?!) types of ink, two bottles of watercolor medium, sponges, palettes, a spray bottle, salt, and probably some gum.

image

My television is primarily a second monitor, even though it is hooked up to cable for some reason.  The stuff here is a little plastic tub of some pills my mom wanted me take the last time my uterus really hurt, iridescence medium, granulation medium, liquid frisket and remover, and a little ceramic pill box that actually contains pen nibs.

image

The holders for said pen nibs, frisket nibs, more scissors that I thought I owned, two X-acto knives, a hole puncher, a fountain pen from Tinsnip, a flexible ruler, and a fuck ton of extra pens and pencils.

image

The wall in front of me is usually covered in more post it notes than that, but otherwise this is what I see while I’m working.  That’s headphones and a lei on that face, yes.  One of my Ippei Gyoubu prints, papyrus, and the Voodoo Homicides painting from like 2009 draped in random necklaces.  Also a Portland postcard featuring a photo that was taken just across the footbridge from where I used to live, and a few tickets from the lightrail.

image

This is my current sketchbook.

image

The paints I usually have with me, and two water-inside watercolor brushes, plus my art box.

WHICH CONTAINS:

image

image

A pair of kinda cheap Wonder Woman headphones.

image

My flash drive, with its elaborate tail that I used to keep from losing the thing before I thought to keep it in here.

image

This Bert’s Bees Pomegranate lip balm from 2011(?) that I am determined to get to the end of, and thus attain divinity.

image

A plastic eraser I never use, a kneaded eraser I need to replace, and two refill erasers for one of my pencils.

image

Mechanical pencils.  I really like green.

image

Another water brush. (And my cat’s tail.)

image

This skull bead for some reason.

and all these pens.

  • 12: Favorite thing to draw?

People and expressions, blood, sparkles/space, people with really unnatural pointy joints, unsettling eyes, Cardassian ridges, collar bones, terrifying teeth, feet.

raptorific:

Swear to god, some guys are terrified that girls are faking common interests to impress them and act really hostile towards anyone they even SUSPECT of doing such a thing

but then they turn around and fake a whole friendship in the hopes of getting sex out of girls, and get mad at them when it doesn’t work

and they super do not see the irony in that

“I know that we have grown apart and that’s as it should be. We learn what we can from certain people, then we move on after we’ve taken what we need. When we learn nothing new about ourselves in a relationship that’s when the relationship is over. Or it’s over the moment when we’re afraid to learn something new about ourselves. But what I have been learning about myself…whatever it was inside me that was sparked and challenged when I first met you…is deeply connected to this story. I’m an unfinished man, Doctor, like a suit of clothes hanging on a display rack waiting for the final touches that may never come; I need to tell this story to make a peace with those parts of me that were left unfinished. A healing. Indulge me, if you will; I need you as a witness.”

- from the first chapter of A Stitch in Time, Garak’s huge letter/journal/novel to Doctor Bashir

I felt so overwhelmed by the bits about ‘when a relationship is over’ when I first read them that they caused me physical pain.  Not for any sort of fandom shipping reasons, but because it hit something really relevant to my life.  Maybe it’s sort of weird and wincingly dorky to feel something so strongly about words ostensibly coming from the mouth a Star Trek character, but I continue to revisit those first lines all the time.  They’re kind of a refreshing ache in how true they feel and I take the strangest bittersweet comfort from them.

Lady’s ASIT Watch

I’m finally seeing some prices under 30 dollars, so if you’re interested in getting A Stitch In Time for closer to 20 bucks, you have some options!

abebooks currently has two copies for about 22 dollars

Amazon has several that come in at about that much after shipping.

ebay and half.com are also offering 19.99 plus shipping, so it’s not a horrible time to get a copy!
