according to the staff commentary for this episode, the script actually called for heavy traffic to be rushing past Dib and Zim in this scene, which is why they’re shouting at each other, and you can even still sort of hear the sound effects

The original request from the writing team to the animation team was simply: “Rhys flips off the monitors as he runs by.” The intent was to have Rhys simply turn off the monitors in an act of defiance, but instead, the animation team interpreted it to mean that Rhys performs a crude gesture.
Apparently, creative director Nick Herman found the mistake to be too hilarious to not use, and so they wound up shipping it.

Also the Tenna ones were my favorite she’s so chaotic I love it
I submit that slamming Jimmy has been an institution in this fandom since the moment Jimmy existed, but reSWAN does add the extra layer of him not entirely deserving all of it, so it’s like an added subtle flavor profile.

Heck yeah, I would love to do that! I keep having to remind myself that all the stuff I know about this group isn’t stuff everyone else knows, so yes! That’s definitely on the list of pre-Edgar stories I’d most like to tell now. Since it’s not a single event, it’s also probably the longest of the pre-Edgar stories I could tell, because of course it is. What thing I’m interested in writing isn’t an imposing monolith of a thing?
Thanks for suggesting this! It’s kinda perfect. I’ll be taking a break from doing writing for a little bit after I finish the story proper so I can do some art and other things, but once the writing stuff kicks back in, this is high on the list.
As an aside, I’m glad we can all call the second life ‘The Freezie Timeline’ now, that’s really satisfying.
I haven’t decided how I’ll ever totally do the Freezie Timeline stuff. There’s a lot less direction in their lives in that one, wildly enough. So it’s mostly the story of a regular person being sucked into the world of a deeply flawed and broken person who is trying to explore his own broken-ness. With Freezies.

like, a child that’s in trouble all the time, frequently skipping school, getting caught doing crimes? that’s a kid that desperately needs literally any positive attention. that kid needs help. obviously.
but a child that is perfectly well-behaved, never speaks up for themself, is seen and not heard? that’s a child that’s afraid. they also need help.
