Man, I feel like I have been hit by seven kinds of traffic this morning, but concert was Yay.
I even bought a fucking tshirt. I don’t think I’ve ever done that? Baby’s first band shirt, haha.
It’s always so weird to see the kinds of bands that get put up to open for the band you go to see. They’re always sort of a facet of what you like about the people you came to see, but never quite right. I think the Shiny Toy Guns concert I went to was particularly like that, since they have some really diverse facets.
Birthday Massacre’s openers, predictably, was a lot of people screaming and just blasting senseless guitars and asking everyone to put their middle fingers in the air? Like, really, are we 14?
Though the act I mentioned last night with the guy dressed as a silver sherpa with an R2D2 backpack was actually the best of the opening people. He was later accompanied by two white girls apparently cosplaying as Mana, a woman painting, and a man painted white and wearing a giant paper mache alien/geisha head. Who someone else then painted while they sang. They were Australian and occasionally I could hear a tune?
Birthday Massacre was fantastic though. They’re so happy to be there, they’re having fun together and teasing each other, and their music sounds fantastic live and on the CD. My cousin was so happy to be there too and she got so excited when they played ‘Blue.’ I was just delighted that Red Stars was the opener. I have this thing, this ideal, that I’d love to see all my SWAN songs live, and the last time I saw Birthday Massacre, I couldn’t remember if Red Stars had been among the set they did because I wasn’t as familiar with it. But we’re covered now~ And they played all my favorites from the new album, and of course did Video Kid and made the whole place start screaming when the opening 8-bit blips started.
I love those people, the things they make make me so happy that I make things. Totally worth sitting through two and a half hours of shit I did not care about for!
