This is why the concept of marriage filled me with terror as a child. Everyone was always talking about how miserable it was, so I assumed that once you hit a certain age, you were forced into it. That was the only way I could rationalize why every couple on tv and in books and most of the ones I knew in real life did nothing but express disgust and frustration with each other.

I was dreading living with a man who was going to hate me for the rest of my life.
