Reposting is saving an image to your phone or desktop or whatever, making a new Tumblr (or whatever platform) post, and putting the image in that new post. Most often this is done without a source or credit, which is the worst, but even putting “by *insert artist here*” is basically saying you’d like to get the notes and attention rather than have it go to the artist. Reposting puts one more step between the artist and someone who might want to pay them for their work. It also deprives an artist of seeing their work go appreciated, which may decrease the odds that you get more art from them in the long run.
Reblogging keeps the artist connected to the material and the post and makes it easy to see who originated the content. Reblogging is spreading the word and showcasing. Artists will love you for reblogging because they are still attached to it but you are helping to carry them further.
