I enjoy fanart but never really got into reading any of the fanfic. A lot of the time what people wanted to do with the character just kinda makes me go 0.o

So, after reading a few kinda bad ones they just put a weird taste in my mouth and I never really got deep in the jthm fanfic community. I’m sure there are great ones out there but,, I have my reasons.

The problem is this- I want to know what the hell is going on lmao!! I keep seeing this fabulously dressed Nny wearing feather boas and stars on his face and there’s bright colors and. Other little things I don’t get? I guess Edward is his boyfriend somehow and they’re in a band or? All fun things I guess, I understand how AU timelines work but without context it all looks. Really confusing lmao and complex? But fun?

Also there’s this other random character.. that I can’t remember the name of right now and people talked about him so much I started to think maybe there was some canon background character I’d forgotten? But I’ve been through the book too many times to be proud of Lmfao.. I want to know who that guy is.

I just want a simple synopsis,, I’m too afraid to read it lmao? I’m nervous I’ll have a bad opinion of it and like.. idk I don’t want to know whether I’d like it or not because it seems really important to a lot of people and if I ever admitted to not liking it I ’d alienate a part of community I love. I just rather exist away from the Discourse somewhere at all costs generally. But- everything coming from that side of fandom is kinda looking like fireworks to me, and it looks kinda fun but I don’t wanna get too close yet, I’d rather someone tell me the occasion first, because it’s not the fourth of July. 😜 What’s going on guys?? 😶

Oh you’re kidding me. Now I’m kind of intimidated lmao, for some reason it didn’t occur to me that I would post this and 12 minutes later the creator themselves would offer to explain. isn’t this just a little awkward hehe. Now I actually feel obligated to read it hehehe I’m in the soup now… Not that I wasn’t already mostly convinced to.

Hahaha, don’t feel pressured!  It’s one of the few tags I track because as ridiculous as it looks from the outside, it’s been pretty critical to my life.  So I just saw your post and laughed about how this looks from outside and then thought I’d offer to explain if that wasn’t super weird.

It is a story about a group of teenage friends who just woke up existing one day, and cannot be seen by anyone but each other.  And while they’re trying to exist by stealing things from convenience stores and leaving blood in parking lots they also want to maybe break out into the rest of the world.  Simultaneously, they slowly start remembering that they used to be a murderer and his victims and that starts to deeply affect them.  The lines between who they were and who they are get a little blurry, and they use music in an attempt to assert themselves as they are now.   There is music and glitter and blood. They meet the anti-christ.  They know a weird loser who likes aliens.  This story is about identity, how memories change and shape you, who you are because of what you’ve done or what you’ve chosen and the choices you can make outside of what was defined for you. 

(Nny is explicitly asexual, should that be a concern of yours.  He does have a very close relationship, but it is not a sexual one. )
