My theory about ‘girl’ kid hair back then was that it was the first time it was acceptable for them to have hair that short, and it was *so* much easier to deal with than the long ringlets of the previous ‘girl’ kid hair so mothers everywhere enthusiastically cut it themselves…and each mom only ever figured out one way to cut it, so it always ended up the same.

I honestly was going to write pretty much that very thing in the post, but I didn’t want to have to hear a ‘Actually…’ from someone, so I left it out.
