I want a particular limited BJD. There is a legit one second hand on eBay but she has been faceupped hideously and I don’t have any experience wiping BJD (because I only own one!) so I do not know how much extra work I’d be in for and if I should just hope to see one less… Like That.
I have always wiped resin with acetone, but I know many people don’t condone that–so, boosting for people who know!
Unless they did the faceup with Sharpie or something equally bad you should be able to wipe it with acetone or Windsor and Newton cleaner. I’ve seen some amazing recoveries from bad faceups, and there is plenty of guidance on YouTube and (if you have access) DOA. Go for your grail doll!
It’s claimed to be acrylic and pastels with Army sealant, which I’ve never seen anyone use. There are a lot of nooks and crannies and the doll is famously fragile, coming fresh from the company broken in many cases, so it would be instant hard mode to recover her. I feel a little bad because it seems they’re selling it like, “here’s my custom, buy my work,” and I plan on completely removing everything they’ve done if I get it.
I should still have my DOA account from a dozen years ago when I first discovered these and wanted one. It was hard to post, though, since I didn’t have one and never saw one in real life, so I didn’t have much to say and was just in quiet fascination, so don’t have the clout to do much, and definitely not marketplace.
Which sculpt is it? But yeah yikes, acrylic. Might be worth shipping to a professional face up artist to wipe it if it’s that fragile.
I hear you about the DOA thing. A lot of my dolls were considered “off topic”, so I could really only observe and dig for resources.
Yeah, my first and only doll “didn’t count” because Doll Chateau didn’t give their centaur body ankles. I was so excited to show Anath to people there when I finally got her and then she wasn’t a real ball jointed doll according to them. They don’t like creepy dolls there anyway, so whatever.
It’s DollZone’s The Moon, from their tarot line, because I can’t want normal ball jointed dolls, apparently. She’s mostly spine, so that breaks in shipping a lot. She has pointed ears that break often too. She has depressions and holes and fiddly bits in her skin, so she’s over all delicate. It’s scary looking at the listing to think she was handled so roughly as to turn into such a mess.
