unpopular opinion but
its not really “ace discourse” you just. don’t like ace people and are trying to “discourse” them all into identifying as something else
It’s not ace discourse, exclusionists are just bigots. Discourse is a discussion, and there isn’t a discussion to be had here. Exclusionists are assholes, and they’re WRONG. End of story. It’s not discourse, it’s bullshit.
this! like. we dont call homophobia “gay discourse” we shouldnt call aphobia “ace discourse”
Saying that you aren’t LGBT for not having sex isn’t even close to homophobia
No, of course it isn’t!
Saying that aces aren’t LGBT for not being attracted to any gender….
At a point when there are a wide range of very large-scale studies showing that aces experience harassment, assault, homelessness, and suicidality, because of their sexual orientation, at rates similar to or even higher than gay and bi people….
Is what’s close to homophobia.
Fun facts: If you look solely at trans people, the rates per each sexual orientation even out, somewhat. Because trans people are already oppressed so much for being trans that even a hetero trans person is pretty screwed.
But even so, the percent of trans people who have attempted (not considered, attempted) suicide (and survived) is 35% for hetero, 40% for gay/lesbian, 40% for bi… and 46% for ace.
Source: the massive National Transgender Discrimination Survey, which also shows ace trans people are by far the most likely to have been homeless. Fun stuff.
Other studies, which you can find on this blog, show similar patterns for cis people. Although interestingly, with cis people, bi folks also tend to have significantly higher rates than gay men and lesbians.
I don’t expect an exclusionist to care about literally any of that. Tbh, what I expect from exclusionists at this point is to go “lmao did you really expect me to read all that anyway aces aren’t LGBT,” because they can’t argue on the facts, because the facts are always against them.
But it’s always worth pointing out, for the non-exclusionists who are interested.
