Microsoft Office 1997 Assistants!
Did you know these assistants originally came from an overlay for all of Windows? It was called Microsoft Bob and it was…really unpopular. Like, “considered one of the worst pieces of software ever” unpopular. Comic Sans was created specifically for MS Bob, too, although it was not actually used in it.
(Scribble the cat made sounds like crumpling paper when dismissed, which I remember finding kinda sad back then. Scribble was eventually replaced by a different cat.)
there was a super annoying wizard for stuff too as in actual wizard avatar for wizard tasks.
Rather, I should say, the idea for the assistants came from MS Bob. The MS Bob assistants had designs that were a lot more…early 1990s Nickelodeon
The Wikipedia list of MS Office assistants doesn’t mention a Wizard? Oh, I found it–the Wizard was from Microsoft Agent, which was supposed to make interacting with the entire computer feel more ~natural~
