Rules: name your top 10 favorite…”I was trying to make a list like this and it really messes me up that so many of my favorite series, sure, I have a favorite female characters, but they are not my favorite character in the whole thing. That’s changed with more modern media because women are starting to be written by and for Not Men, but all my 90s sci-fi, I’m like, uh, shit, the middle aged alien guy is my overall favorite.God same. It really surprised me making the list actually. I think only two of the characters I listed are my actual favorite character of their whole respective media. I’m glad you pointed that out.
It wasn’t meant to be like a callout or anything! I don’t think it’s a flaw in the viewer to like characters that actually get well written or developed just because the people making the show decided that the characters that would happen to would be men.
Some of the ones I’ve been writing down it’s like, “Well, she’s my favorite female character because she’s… the only option? I love her, but there’s one female character in this series.”
I’ve been finding it really exciting to look at all the media I’ve liked from more recent times and see people who aren’t men show up as my favorites, though. Finally, and genuinely, and not just ‘because they were the girl one’ like they were when I was a kid.
