one of the most annoying/funny parts of being bilingual is when you try to use an expression in one language that doesn’t translate to the other language. I love to use random expressions like this in my native language so this happens to me fucking constantly. So in Italian we say “conosco I miei polli” which basically means “I know what I’m talking about’ or ‘I know what I’m doing’ but directly translates to ‘I know my chickens.’ So the other day I was baking cupcakes and my moms motherfucking friend Michelle walks her ass over and tries to tell me about how I’m making the fucking cupcakes wrong. So naturally, I go, “I know my chickens, Michelle.” and she looks at me like I’m fucking insane and I don’t realize it for a good 30 seconds that that expression does not translate to English.
The devil is a squirrel.
“Don’t teach your grandma to suck eggs”
“tie your donkey to a good stick” is a favourite of mine
“My beans fell that way”
