Hocus Pocus, 1993, Or Witches Wear the Best Stuff
This is one of those family films involving all the classic elements: siblings working together, coping with a new town and school for the family, a possible teenage romance. Then, throw in Halloween, a boy turned into a black cat, and some very ambitious witches. The costumes were designed by Mary Vogt and she seems to have fun with the three witches’ costumes worn by Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker who play sisters once hung in Salem, Massachusetts who have come back for their revenge.
While the witches own traditional capes and broomsticks, Vogt decided to have fun with the colors and fabrics which range from satin to velvet to lace all in the same outfit. Their dresses are long and corseted. Then, Thora Birch plays the little sister who wear her own present-day Halloween witch costume which is black and orange and somehow spunky like her character.
The film is playing on Freeform all October, and you can read an interview with Mary Vogt here: https://www.glamour.com/story/hocus-pocus-costumes
