Day 26 is Alien
When I was five, the thing I was most scared of was the typical Grey Alien. My grandma had a book about alien abductions with drawings printed in silver ink and it terrified me to turn every page. The combination of my reflection and the lights outside my bedroom window made me see something that looked alien enough that I was afraid to purposefully look through it after dark for what felt like a long time.
As I got older, aliens started to become a really popular motif on things and I was just kind of haunted and intrigued. All the plush ones you could win at carnivals and fairs were dressed in wizard robes and things and always won by the older kids, which made me think there was some kind of cool older kid thing I didn’t know about.
It’s funny now I love aliens so much. I have more than a few wearables featuring them, thanks to the resurgence of the 90s in popular media, haha.
All that said, at first, I read Alien on this list and thought, ‘oh man, I could draw something from any number of the sci-fi franchises I’m in love with.’ But nothing else has been fanwork, so I couldn’t do that. Then I think, okay, what feels alien? Something based on something humans aren’t. Crystals, I guess. Then I remembered very small me’s terror of the aliens in grandma’s book to the point of hyping myself up to turn the page and I thought I should draw one of them. So that combined with the crystal base and here we are.
