just got a call from the fucking state health department and apparently i’ve just been selected as a person to put on their state-wide pandemic panic call center network and there is a situation i do not want
no information just ‘do you have computer and internet connection? great, training is at 8am on Monday’

I wish to convey that this was a phone call that began like this:
“Is this [My Name]?”
“Yes?”
“I’m Some Girl from the State Department of Health. You have been identified to be part of the Governor’s Pandemic Response Call Center. I need to ask you this script of questions about telework.”
“….um. Ok??????”
“Do you have high speed internet at home?”
“Yes?”
“Do you have a computer which you will have access to during all work hours?”
“…Yes?”
“According to the survey, you are able to telework.
Your responsibilities will be logging complaints and compliance checks into the state system, work hours are 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, beginning November 30th. Training on the telephone system will begin 8am Monday.”
“What???? What is going on, I haven’t heard anything even a little bit about this until right now.”
“Neither have I.”
She noted my objection to being suddenly the public’s punching bag for Pandemic Panic and said she literally had no more information than what was on the survey.
I feel like I was recruited by the men in black but it wasn’t even cool?? Like just “Hi, you are technically qualified and this is your assignment. Training is in 7 days. Fuckity bye.”

Press release from Governor says he is ‘utilizing personnel from other state agencies’ to fulfill the public needs for reports and questions, so like, it was probably real? But she had nothing.
