@withthingsunreal fucking Right? high five. Being 13 was Prime Time for just absorbing this both thoroughly and permanently.
I’ve got German and Chilean versions of it too, along with several covers. And the one on the Sailor Moon in Paris album. Everything on that album makes my skin crawl, but I gotta have all the Moon Revenge.
English theme song is …yeah. I submit that Carry On and Power of Love were are jams though.
YEAH kind of a sidebar but i have a post in my queue about the fact that hyperfixations - esp reading at a Devouring Pace - was easier when we were younger bc of the basic needs that were taken care of by adults in our lives. now we gotta like. feed ourselves and pay rent and shit.
anyway i will always have nostalgic love for the dub theme which is probably made obvious by my Sailor Moon tag which is ‘fighting evil by moonlight’
That hyperfixation thing feels extremely real. The power to produce intricately obsessive bullshit has not reached its full potential inside me since I was 17. It has surfaced a few times, but never gets to emerge fully from adulthood lake. I’ve been doing some flavors of it this week, along with my very good friend from high school. We are both twitchily obsessed with compiling and editing all of the character story roleplay stuff we have done over the course of 20 years. Every spare moment is just like I’m copying more or I got six more pages edited. She has a boyfriend who is finally, after being with my friend for like 8 years, understanding the depth of my friend’s connection with me. Before I think I came off as just like this weirdo that my friend felt bad didn’t have anywhere else to go or didn’t have any other friends. Now it all comes out that there are AOL chat logs from 2001 and Beyond. Emails from the truly mortifying days of 1998. He has no idea how deep this hole goes. And my friend that I don’t really either but because we are laser focused on it right now we don’t care and we are the only ones who have any kind of Hope in Hell of getting to something that looks like an end.
I absolutely have great Nostalgia for the English Sailor Moon theme. I think that there are few songs that feels so precisely like shooting up with essence of being 9 years old. Particularly if I watch a video of it with the English opening visuals, then I am on fucking board. The twinkling kind of staticy sound at the start, that was like the sound of my brain when that shit came on. Connecting to the mothership.
I just never listen to it on its own as part of my playlists haha. Though I do admit the instrumental section makes bits of meat inside my rib cage long for things unidentified.
I know that many of the international versions I really like are just as hokey lyrically as the English one, but many of them also got funky new Tunes.
My brother and I still Jam to the German Sailor Moon theme. He likes it so much he has shown it to his girlfriend when I wasn’t even there to provide the excuse for why he was playing it. He just thinks it’s a legit banger.
