In November 2020, an untitled sculpture adorning the side of a bank in Palencia, Spain, was rendered unrecognizable following a botched attempt at restoration. 

For Spain, this is only the latest in a string of recent incidents in which non-professionals have irreversibly damaged artistic works while executing commissioned rehabs. Conservation experts in the country are once again calling for stricter regulations.
