According to Papusilemele, the Barbie Extra line has officially replaced BMR1959, and according to leaks, it looks like the Barbie Extra line will be getting MTM bodies.

It is hard to tell, but assuming the images are in scale with one another, it looks like a new skintone Petite MTM, the doll on the bottom right, is a part of the new wave.

The new wave is supposed to be 5 dolls, but I saw rumors of a new MTM Ken, so (this is speculation on my part), maybe Ken will join the line?

Regardless, hopefully the others will leak (not that I’m interested in any of them at this point). It looks like the pigtails doll maybe a Grace head imho and it is hard to tell, but here’s hoping the undercut gal is on a curvy MTM at least.

Also, I’m hoping toy leaks will keep flowing since there was no Toy Fair this year and that is where a lot of these things would have been announced.

Mattel has done knife pleats recently before (iirc they were only on the front and the back wasn’t pleated), these look like box pleats to me on this doll (which is even more shocking because they are more complicated and take more material), but I’m wondering if they will go all the way around or once again the back will be plain. 🤔

It’s entirely possible to set pleats before even cutting the fabric if the fabric is processed through a pleating machine first

There are also cam-driven industrial sewing machines that can make basic and box pleats in ribbon, and I can’t see any reason you couldn’t run a length of narrow fabric–with one edge already finished by a hem roller–through one of those to get yards and yards of pleated fabric to then cut to use for a doll skirt https://www.rowlson.com/en/box-pleat-machines-for-rosettes

So the Mattel sewing facilities have tiny easy pleat options that somebody probably just realized within the last few years 😆

Better photos have leaked, two of which are the other two dolls from this wave that had not been seen yet. These screen caps are from Papusilemele’s Insta and she got them from European Amazon listings.

I hate to say it, but I like the doll with the pink braids, mainly just the doll herself because I can’t tell what is going on with that outfit lol

I also like the last doll, I like both her hair and her outfit with the exception of the blue purse and fur stole (if that is what it is).

It kind of looks like they may be using a new hair texture type for the last girl.

Of course me liking those two could all change by they time they come out and we get a better look at them, so…

Maybe they’re using Kiwi’s perfume pufff MLP-type hair?

Unrelated but I also kind of wonder if Kiwi offering that hair will prompt Hasbro into reproing Perfume Puff ponies.

That is what I’m hoping. I’m hoping they will switch to better hair for the Extra line in general, but that perfume puff hair is exactly what I thought of when I saw it.
