I think a thing that hasn’t really been explored about Jamie is that he would have been estranged from his family.
Historically the McCrimmons were pipers for the McLeod clan… who fought for the Hanovers. Which includes Donald McCrimmon (Jamie’s dad!)
So I headcanon that he left his family a year or so before the Highlanders and offered his piping services to a clan (McLaren) that he knew were loyal to the Stuarts.
Worth noting that “craeg an tuire” is a *McLaren* battle cry. And that Jamie doesn’t wear the *McCrimmon* tartan colours which are blue with a bit of yellow (he doesn’t wear the McLaren tartan either, that’s blue and green).
