Except for Carnivale, the other two look so bad…
Source in photos.
Also it appears they no longer have Made to Move bodies based on the hand mold and posing… 🤷
I don’t understand the furry sleeves look at all???
I *might* would get Carnivale because she looks fairly cute, and while I know this more than likely isn’t the case, it kind of looks like she is on a shorter curvy body, but the other two remind me a lot of BMR’s clownery.
I thought they didn’t have MTM they had like a retooling of the older Fashionistas style jointing?
But if they’re already removing joints or something, then that’s bad.
…
These outfits are Extra Awful. That first jacket could have been really cute if it had normal sleeves and I kind of like the starts top but not enough to actually want to buy the doll. Like… I do NOT like the rufflefins sticking off the upper arms.
The prototype images that were leaked by Amazon had this wave on MTM bodies.
I think the jacker on the last doll would have been cute if they went with a contrast satin sleeve, so it would be a proper letterman jacket to go with her schoolgirl-esque theming (pleated skirt, leg warmers).
And I totally agree about the first doll.
I think the second doll’s outfit is the least offensive fashion-wise lol, but I definitely would only buy her for the doll because I don’t hate her screening and I think her hair is really cute (it actually looks very similar to a look from one of the S13 RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants lol).
It is weird how we all kind of thought these were replacing BMR and now it looks like they’ve went full tilt into that because the outfits are nearly the same level of wtf??
Confirmation from someone who has them in hand that they are not MTM bodies:
Promo images that were leaked by Amazon (where MTM joints are visible):
I hate Mattel lol
I want to drop a word of appreciation for the illustration team at Mattel, though. The art on everything has been really well put together and sweet for a few years, even as the dolls become worse and worse. Their artwork of the blonde pigtails doll is energetic and cute and then you look at the doll who is just like ▪____•
I was one of the people who found the first wave kind of fun, but aside from stars girl in these pictures… hooboy.
Yeah, the artists are really killing it.
I wish the dolls were stylized more like the art. It has a great fusion of late 80s/early 90s American promotional cartoons with a heavy dose of anime influence.
I actually think is quite cute.
They make all of the fashionistas and color reveal doll look really fun and appealing. Mattel is getting a real value in whoever is drawing Barbie in these dark times. Everytime I look at Mattel illustrations I think that would be a really fun job to have haha
These two were so sweet I saved them, and I saved most of the Barbie Extra ones too!
