@wukodork:
Benefits of sticking closer to the manga: everything is extremely gay now. Downside of sticking closer to the manga: the plot moves at the speed of light now.

Right? I was really excited when they first announced this series would be closer to the manga in style and content because I always thought there was an elegance to the manga that the original anime never managed to capture, but I feel like they adhered to all the wrong parts of everything when making Crystal.

I was excited to see reimagined transformations, not the same ones from the first anime, just with more Photoshop filters on them.

Everything just kind of being a panel for panel display of the manga made things feel a bit, ‘why are you doing this, then?’ They cut so many corners with the animation that it kind of doesn’t even hold up as 'we just wanted to animate the manga, shot for shot, but in this great style’.

Do appreciate animated versions of Usagi being a bisexual disaster and the Neptune and Uranus ending song and Rei and Mamoru not being the way they were in the first anime, though.

And Moon Pride is still a jam.
