For those of you who have been so kind and concerned about me and Onyx:

Last night, after my phone turned into a brick and I had nothing else to do but lie around in the dark with all my goofy gay lights on, Onyx walked off their favorite window sill and across my headboard and dropped down beside me. They’d done this a few other times while feral angry, and fucking screamed at me when I dared even say hello before, so I was not expecting anything, but then they crawled over some pillows to reach my hand and meowed to be petted.

I scratched their ears and petted their head and they were purring and smushing their face into my hands. When they let me pet down to their shoulders, I unhooked one side of the harness. Another 30 seconds and I was able to do the same thing on the other side. There was no fussing or struggling or even any signs of noticing from Onyx for several seconds.

They realized the thing was mostly off and hanging off of them funny and tried to lick at it and I sat up, which would have frightened them off in the last week, but they just looked at me with these absolutely massive pupils and I said all the things I used to say when it was time to take the harness off after a walk.

They didn’t make a sound and we pulled it over their head together. It was one of the best moments of trust between me and this cat. Honestly, it felt kind of magical.

They sniffed the harness and then bit it and they’ve been normal and happy ever since that time last night.

Short version of the story is that they are better now and they are back to being my kitty. They’ve had so many ear rubs and snuggles and kibble chases today and I’m so happy to see the complete change in their body language. I love my Onyx so much.
