so here is a thing:
i now have windows 11. whenever i try to interact in any way with a zip file via windows explorer, windows explorer freezes and crashes.
even left clicking once on the file to select it leads to this.
i tried grabbing a new zip file manager and setting it as the default. the same thing still happens if i try to access the file through explorer.
anybody else have this? anybody fix it?

okay, my partner says that in that case the problem is almost definitely with Windows Explorer itself and you unfortunately need to contact Windows and submit bug reports. You can try googling the problem along with the make and model of your computer to see if there’s a bizarre back-roads work-around, but unless it’s happening to everyone with Windows 11, it’s likely to be highly specific to your computer, and Windows needs to release a patch for it tinsnip said: @dvar-trek yes, I can access zip files thru 7zip without issue.

are you able to open the zip files through the new zip file manager? like, are you able to open the program and tell it to open a file? If so, the problem is almost definitely with File Explorer itself. If not, I’ll send you an explanation of the command line thing to try. i-hope-they-have-wifi-in-hell liked this

Are you comfortable using the command line at all? My partner has a diagnostic suggestion that involves attempting to open a zip in the command line. And says that otherwise, you can check for system updates and restart (if you haven’t already), and send a bug report to Windows. Since Windows 11 is still so new, they’re probably being pretty responsive to those currently. Which is not an ideal answer, I know. sisuimp reblogged this from tinsnip
