I’ve been teaching myself how to do 3-d rendering as a way to expand what we can do jewelry wise for Optimystical Studios. It’s slow going because a lot of the ways things are structured doesn’t make sense to my brain.

BUT!

I was able to take a few of the small things I’ve learned and create a charm I’ve been wanting to have for a few years.

YES FOLKS I MADE A BRICK!

It might not seem like much but I was able to do it without looking up any tutorials and I managed to get it to do all the things I wanted that I had been struggling with on other projects (like properly removing material for the holes and softening the edges).

And now I can cast little metal bricks to go with our Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson charms!

The one in the photo is my first test cast in sterling because I wasn’t sure if the loop was going to be big enough. While it did work in silver I don’t think it will work in pewter, so I’m going to make a version with a slightly beefier loop before I cast a bunch of pewter ones.

But look at it! It’s so good!

I still need to do final finishing. And the pewter ones will be getting a texture put on them after casting to make them look a little more brick like. But I am so excited I just had to share.

So… Happy Pride everyone!
