The second person ever to receive the glass microphone trophy for winning the Eurovision Song Contest ended up breaking it on stage.
While receiving his trophy, 2009 winner Alexander Rybak broke the stem off of it while setting it down on the stage before going to reprise ‘Fairytale.’ Rybak admits to breaking the trophy himself.
Ever since Rybak arrived to the winner’s conference with his broken trophy, subsequent trophies hace been reenforced via two metal rings connecting the top and bottom.
