Some thoughts about the live action Sailor Moon thing…

Knowing that so many of the toys were based on what was going on with this. The ring that was included with the wand and the moon shaped jewelry box thing made me jump a little. I think my dad is responsible for the loss of my sailor moon locket and wands but some part of me feels like I still own them.

They used so many of the designs from the 7 Rainbow Crystals section of the first season for the random baddies. So wild seeing them divorced from their original context.

The actress who played Mercury was so adorable wtf.

The standard 90s girls things of pink, dances, one liner joke from everyone, stuff about weight, yelling about breaking a nail were all present.

It is SO WEIRD hearing the song without a bunch of full adult dudes laughing and groaning over it after 20 years.

I don’t think I would have liked this as much as I ended up loving what we got and what we have, because live action always felt really alienating to me, but I think I still would have watched.

I have wanted to draw some of these designs for a long time. I used to imagine what it would be like if this had been what was developed - what the franchise would feel like with two different shows. There would be totally different sets of dolls, and fan tropes of mixing background lore from each version in art and fic or something. It would be fun to have fan Event where everyone pretends to be in that timeline haha
