Just saw a post that I understand was meant to be humorous/venting, wondering why doctorâs offices donât fill prescriptions, and, as someone who has read about why, my reaction wasâŠdefinitely not lighthearted enough to put on that post
Still, for people who donât know, hereâs a big reason why you do not want your doctor to also fill your prescriptions (and also why it should be a big red flag when ~alternative medicine~ practitioners do)âthe tl;dr is âthe more aspects of your healthcare a single person is in charge of, the more they can use that to their advantage to profit fromâ
Another thing is that sometimes the pharmacists will catch a drug interaction that the doctor didnât even know about.
^that. Pharmacists know more about drugs than doctors; thatâs their whole job. I think thereâs a conversation to be had that doctors should communicate much more with pharmacists and have more conversations about which medicines are effective for the symptoms the patient is experiencing, instead of relying on brand recognition and pharmaceutical reps.
But even outside of that, and outside of any sort of profit motive (which there absolutely can be): the more things a single practitioner is in charge of, the more that can get missed or forgotten. I donât want my doctor in charge of dispensing my meds on top of prescribing them; it would be way too easy for them to screw something up.
