Do you ever think about the fact that, in spite of Quark’s misogyny, he only actually seems to be attracted to women who are basically the complete opposite of what a Ferengi female is supposed to be?

And then, of course, you notice that his mom is also the complete opposite of what a Ferengi female is supposed to be, and it occurs to you that maybe he has some fucked up oedipal shit going on?

#I think he has a lot of cognitive dissonance in his life#He’s a Bad Ferengi just like his brother#But Rom embraces not being Ferengi most of the time and Quark clings to it because on some level he knows he’s really bad at it#He doesn’t have another identity though#It’s possible all Ferengi fail at being perfect Ferengi and feel like they’re just pretending for the sake of others#You know#Like men and the patriarchy

I’ve made this point before, about how people like Troi, Spock, and Worf, gravitate towards humans because being around humans makes them feel like a normal member of their own species instead of the social misfits they are, but now I’m realizing it applies to Quark too. Everyone on ds9 considers him to be the poster boy for the ferengi nation, and I bet that’s WHY he likes living with aliens
