I think she has every right to be angry. Painting a cat meme that’s been around for 20 years and has been absorbed as a free to use public silliness - which you then have recontextualized by rendering it in oil and putting it in a Institution for what’s typically more serious business kind of art - is a completely different thing from taking an image from one lady who puts together a calendar for her cats every year. (And even then, I feel like it would be better practices to track down the origin of I can has cheeseburger rather than just go for it.) To not credit or collaborate and then just put it in a gallery… not cool
To drag her into the deep end of very complex fluent English spaces is also pretty shitty.
