You think I have a bad time here? The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has had to make three separate statements in the last week because people were flipping out over some rain water falling on a statue of Ramesses II inside the new museum and therefore they weren’t looking after their artefacts properly. The person releasing the statements was clearly getting as frustrated as I do sometimes because their responses can be boiled down to:
- The roof is designed to do that
- The statue is made of granite, which is resistant to erosion
- The statue was out in the elements of Egyptian weather from c.1200 BCE to 2006 CE and was just fine
You could really feel the ‘I have already said this several times, what part of granite is not affected by rain water and it’s been outside for 4000 years are you not getting?’ in it
