It might be difficult to find, but you should check out a British series written by Terry Nation (who created the Daleks and wrote for Doctor Who) from the early eighties called Blake's 7. It's a definite nod to Star Wars, but it's entertaining as heck and the characters are great. Plus the leading antagonist is a woman with the best dresses ever.

Oh, I didn’t know Terry Nation had made that show.  I only knew his name because of the Daleks.  I had a friend for a while who was super into Blake’s 7, so I’ve heard of it, at least, and he could probably point me at episodes if I went that route. 

Nice to hear about the lady antagonist, I didn’t hear about anyone but men in that show, so I’d written it off.  Is it super episodic return to the status quo every week sort, or are there arcs and things?
