Most of DS9 is focused on a really top-level view of life on the station; it’d be nice if there were more episodes that got into the multiple levels of the station’s organization and how the characters we see within particular roles in the scope of what we see on the show deal with the complexities of their particular fiefdoms of station life.

The show plays O’Brien’s role as the Chief as O’Brien running around singlehandedly fixing everything but he actually runs an entire crew of engineers of whatever size; it’s pretty rare that we see him working with the entire actual team of people he has to manage day in and day out.

Or for that matter, Odo - the show generally operates as if he’s essentially the only security officer on the station, it’d be nice to see how he interacts with the entire staff of people for whom he’s responsible.

Hell, even Quark has an actual staff of Ferengi waiters and Dabo girls that he has to manage, it’d be fun to get a ground-level view of him having to deal with the assorted ridiculous random issues and personality conflicts that a small business owner/operator has to deal with.

This is one of very few areas where I wish DS9 were more like Battlestar Galactica, in that the latter did a much better job of getting into what life was like for the fighter pilots, what it was like for the engineering crew, what it it was like for the command crew, and what the interactions were like among all of those different groups.

EDIT: you know what I really would have loved to see, just once?
