The 1983 classic Doctor Who serial “Enlightenment” is the only serial in the show’s history to be both written and directed by women.
It’s also a lovely allegorical space fantasy with deep concepts, excellent direction and visuals, beautiful costumes, a memorable female antagonist and even just a bit of camp for fun.
So next time you hear someone raising a stink about women “ruining” science fiction, kindly remind them of the above facts.
Oh my god I just watched this, and I think this may be one of my all-time favorite serials of Doctor Who.
