I can’t find any clothes that fit her and almost dressed her in a tissue for this, but here’s Beautiful Hair Ariel (…hairiel) recovered from her thrift store life!
Here is a pleasing side by side :)
This lady (1981 Happy Birthday Barbie) who survived her thrift cleaning ordeal even got to keep her Decision of a hairstyle after very careful smoothing and combing. Her eyes are wildly misprinted, that mark on her cheek doesn’t want to leave, and she needs a paint touch up on her bottom lip, but she’s so goofy looking with half an 80s bubble cut on her head that it has kind of swung around to being charming.
I fixed up my thrifted vintage Ken. I don’t have flocking, but I thought visually just painting the empty places would make him look nice. He got some facial additions also. I think he looks really nice now.
I’m going to find him something to actually wear. The shirt is from a modern Ken, so it is very big on him.
Finished some photo restoration this afternoon!
This photo is a very dark positive printed on a tiny piece of glass about an inch and a half or so tall. He was found among a group of three, only one of which we knew the identity of. The family name is Boots, so we’ve nicknamed this one Glass Boots, to go with his compatriots Ed Boots and Tin Boots. We scanned him at fucktillion dpi and I got to clean him up for my friend, as for once I’m doing this on someone else’s ancestors, haha.
His pink cheeks and lips are an intentional tinting from the original print and not anything I’ve added, though it’s very difficult to see it in real life.
Here’s Baby Starbow all cleaned up!
When I was a kid I was briefly friends with this girl whose name I don’t remember, but who I think about every time I drive past what was her home at the time. We were playing in her house and she had this My Little Pony. Even though I was probably eight or nine at the time I still considered myself something of a collector more than a child playing with toys and I had never seen this Pony and I wanted this Pony.
The girl did not care about the pony and offered to give it to me. I was absolutely psyched about this and I carried it around the entire time we played together that afternoon. Then, when it came time for me to go home, she told me that she had to ask her dad if it was okay for her to give me the pony. I thought this sounded kind of sketchy, but I was not going to question it.
She asked, and he said NO and I was heartbroken that this thing I had walked around with all day and had a decidedly bonded with would have to stay with this girl who didn’t give a damn about it at all. I don’t even know if I ever hung out with her again. I think she may have later accused me of trying to steal that pony.
Anyway, this is the pony. Or at least it’s another of the same kind of pony that I saved from eBay it isn’t the exact one. But I had to get one after my weird childhood bonding experience with a toy I couldn’t I have for reasons I didn’t quite trust, haha.
I rescued this Baby Starbow from eBay. She still needs more time in the sun to take care of her ink stains, I have some paint touch-ups to do after that is completed, and I need to set her forelock in an actual shape, but she’s already recovered so much.
I have a story about this one from when I was a kid, but I’ll wait until she’s all finished.
Wanted to try out the textured curls from The Doll Planet after a friend heard me saying I really wanted to see a fantasy color other than purple on a black doll that was also in a natural texture.
This 90s Christie was the winner selected for a test run because she already had the minty color in her eyes. Most of the repaint is in fact just overpaint, obviously, but I had a good time with sparkle.
She has an unintended Styla Blue of Spectra and the Shimmerons vibe, but even Styla has straight hair, so.
Really enjoyed doing this. I have several proper full paint jobs coming my way soon, so look forward to those, perhaps.
Did paint work on the Disney Store Sisu too!
These were fun~

Did some overpainting on Hasbro Sisu. One of the things I like about her human design is her big mouth with her uneven teeth! Both versions of the doll have them molded, but not painted to be emphasized or anything.
Disney Store Sisu is up next I think. She looks extra weird next to the Hasbro one now, haha
