I didn’t tell you guys, but this weekend, I was out with my brother and my mom, and my brother (four years younger than me, and vastly more well-adjusted to absolutely everything) was telling me all about the sociology class he’s taking online right now.

And he said to me while we were walking in a book store that until that class, he had no idea that sex and gender were different and he was just blown away. I listened to him explain them to me and he definitely gets it. So then we had a mini conversation about things being on a spectrum, even, rather than just A or B, and then it went into Baby’s First Feminism Discussion and I was just really, really pleased that he was having these conversations and, for where he is in his understanding, really having them well, and being receptive and listening to people who this stuff affects.  I think having a girlfriend and a sister who get fuming mad about things (and, you know, caring about those people) has really shown him a lot of things he otherwise wouldn’t pay attention to.

My mom wanted to buy a giant canvas while we were out, and we pulled into a plaza where there was a Hobby Lobby, and my brother was the first person to tell her we were ‘not giving money to those s.o.b.’s’, when it’s usually me limiting her shopping choices.  (I get really mad if she even donates to Salvation Army.  She has to take her old stuff somewhere else, haha)  Meanwhile, my mom was like, “I wasn’t even considering it.  I knew someone in this car would not let me go in there.  We’re going to the framing store at the other end."

I was really proud. :)
