Hahaha, excellent~  welcome to the staircase.

I think the vague science approach is leftover from my intense need to justify everything I do somehow, but I guess because it’s aliens, I’m suddenly interested in every facet of the thing and this is just one more of those.   

Plus, I think, the realer I can make something, the happier I am?  I don’t want to say ‘legitimize,’ but it’s close to that.  If I can take principles from real world workings and apply them to alien things, even if it’s just to say how they aren’t true in this case, then it heightens the level of reality in my scififantasy worlds, but in a good way.  Not in a ‘everything is brown and it is needlessly grimdark’ way.  It enriches the worlds for me to try to make sense of all the things that have been just made the fuck up. 

Also, I am beginning to suspect that with the right cuts and shapes, he will look good in anything.  Fur sequins pinstripes? Yes.   Tiara?  Yes.  Standard menswear? Yes.  Rococo frills? Yes.  Pajamas and pompoms? Yes.

I have to tell you guys the story of me and his boots later.  I was going to tell it during my liveblogging, but I was so emotional that I did not have the presence of mind to do it.

You know, normally I’m super not on board with this kind of thing for a variety of reasons, but these folks are so alien, and the details we were given about both species’ reproduction made them even more baffling than if we’d known nothing (seahorse possum lizards? vampireteeth with squid limbs attached near their ribcages? wat), and then the spectrum of sex and gender and biological arrangements that people can fall in is so big even in humans that I just shrug like, ‘yeah, okay, i’m down, 300 years of Space Science and alien body arrangements, cool, let me sit here and work up some super vague shit based on slightly less vague shit.’

BUT ANYWAY good for you!   I’ve been kind of entranced with how ridiculously wrong that could all go just on a species level, but with them specifically, wow, now there are extra layers of serious medical freak out issues abounding in addition to the generic ones.
