So, I got bored today and decided to investigate a question that had been bouncing around my head for some time. We all know that certain characters are more “ficcable” than others, in the sense that the fandom falls madly in love with them and writes zillions and zillions of words of fic. An obvious example of this effect is Garak from DS9— not actually a main character, but beloved of the fandom (hey, he’s fascinating). But can we quantify this effect?
